States and districts have had experience implementing improvement systems and research-based interventions under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and School Improvement Grants (SIG). The evidence-based provisions in ESSA ask states and districts to consider evidence-based interventions that demonstrate a statistically significant effect on improving student or other relevant outcomes supported by four levels of evidence: strong evidence, moderate evidence, promising evidence, and evidence that demonstrates a rationale based on high-quality research or positive evaluation.
The purpose of this community of practice (CoP) is to help state education agencies (SEAs) craft thoughtful, ambitious plans with feedback and support from peer SEAs and national subject matter experts (SMEs). In particular, we are hoping that we can work with your team to develop the capacity to:
Identify and implement evidence-based interventions as part of a continuous improvement cycle;
Support local education agencies (LEAs) in their use of the continuous improvement cycle to identify and implement evidence-based interventions, and;
Refine current or proposed criteria for identifying evidence-based interventions in state ESSA consolidated plans
The evidence-based interventions CoP will create a shared online space for teams from SEAs, and eventually teams from LEAs, to learn from one another as well as research and policy experts.
