Financial Transparency

The new ESSA per-pupil expenditure (PPE) reporting requirement has the potential to have profoundly important effects on school systems, as we will now be able to compare spending and outcomes by school—an incredibly important unit of change. Given these challenges in rural states, this new Financial Transparency Community of Practice (CoP) will focus specifically on meeting the needs of rural, less-populated states. Specifically, the work will:

(1) help states develop financial data collection plans, (2) enable the co-creation of communication strategies specifically targeted for their districts about the financial transparency requirement and data uses, and (3) design financial systems that are effective for all districts, including those in rural settings.
